Life is More . . .

 God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 1 John 5:11b

          Life is more than enjoying a beautiful sunset with your significant other.  It is more than a night on the town with your brother or a five-course meal with your mother.  Life is more than reading the top-selling novel or finding relief by reaching for your pill bottle.  Life is more than watching the number 1 tv show or movie.  It is more than gazing upon another’s beauty or relaxing in your jacuzzi.  Life is more than playing or watching your favorite sport.  It is more that travelling to foreign lands with your passport.  Life is more than awards, trophies, and college degrees.  It is more than getting a famous chef’s expertise.  Life is more than friendly competition on a video game.  It is more than any superstar fame.  Life is more than listening to your favorite song on the radio.  It is more than cancelled school and sledding in the snow.  Life is more than your grandmother’s hugs.  It is more than smoking, drinking, and drugs.  Life is more than fast cars.  It is more than getting pictures and autographs with stars or searching for a date on an app and in the bars.  Life is more than a hundred likes on your social media account.  It is more than the 12-point buck hanging on your wall mount.  Life is more than your cheat day with pizza and ice cream.  It is more than chasing your dreams. Life is more than half-off day at your favorite retail store.  It is more than ripping it up with your friend on the dance floor.  Life is more than a cruise across the ocean. 

          You see we have missed the notion, that the reason this Earth was put into motion was for God’s promotion, and to Him and Him alone should go our devotion.  We have been led astray by our emotions, but no more!  It is time that we live as “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that we may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).  We are “set apart for the Gospel of God” (Romans 1:1).  This is what life is.   Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life.”  (John 14:6)  “Jesus is life, and the life is the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness…” (John 1:4-5) as we obey His Word.  That is “the kingdom of God and it is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)  Our light shines as we walk in righteousness to God’s Word!  Is your light shining, or has it grown dim.  If you believe in Jesus, the Son of God, then “God has given you eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (1 John 5:11).   Jesus, this light/life should resonate in every area of your being, not just at church on Sundays!  What are you living for?  If anything else is before God in your life, then it is an idol.  Get rid of your idols and make Jesus the priority of your life!  When you do, God will bless you, He will. protect you, He will provide for you, He will lead you and you will have the abundant, successful life that Jesus came to give you.
