Learn God’s Ways

The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. Psalm 25:9

What do you think of when you hear that someone is humble?  Do you think that the person is shy, quiet, reserved, passive, or gets walked all over?  Do you picture a person that is ruled by others (slave)?  What if I told you that to be humble is to be free.  The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines humility as the freedom from pride or arrogance.  If we are not humble, we are restricted by pride and arrogance.  Humility is a very positive characteristic that we should all work towards achieving in our lives.  Humility allows us to be taught by the Lord (Psalm 25:9).  If we do not humble ourselves, it is like telling God that we know what to do and do not need His input.  We cannot expect to receive God’s guidance and teaching if we are not humbling ourselves.  You can see this clearly with Moses and the children of Israel.

Numbers 12:3 says, “Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.”  Moses walked in humility as shown in Hebrews 11:24-25.  “By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.”  The children of Israel, however, for the most part did not walk in humility.  This is why Psalm 103:7 says, “He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.” What does this mean?  Take for example a mouse trap.  What do you put on a trap to catch a mouse?  Cheese?  Did you know that mice actually prefer foods higher in carbohydrates like grains, fruit, and seeds.  If you have been putting cheese on your traps, you know the acts of mice, not their ways.  You know that mice eat food when they are hungry, but you do not really know them.  The children of Israel saw God part the Red Sea and therefore knew the acts of God, but they did not know His ways.  Choose today to walk in humility.  Be set free from pride and arrogance, which will allow God to teach you His ways!
