Fleeting Pleasures of Sin

…instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin.  Hebrews 11:25

There is pleasure associated with sin.    Hebrews 11:24-25 says, “It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.  He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin.”.  We must remember that the pleasure that comes with sin is fleeting.  Fleeting means to last for a very short time.  So there will be pleasure, but it will not last.  Think of it like fireworks on the 4th of July.  I am not saying fireworks are bad, just using them as an example.  When you light the fuse on the firework, it will fly up into the sky and produce this beautiful display for 3-5 seconds.  Then it is over.  That beautiful display was fleeting, lasting for a short time.

While you are in sin, you are in darkness.  The same with fireworks.  You are going to shoot the fireworks off in darkness.  John 3:19-20 says, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”  Once you come back to the light, your deeds/sin will be exposed.  The day after you shoot fireworks, you will walk outside to find trash in your yard and your neighbor’s yard.  Sin is no different.  Once the pleasure from sin is gone, you will reap bad things.  It may not only affect you, but the others around you.  That is when you are faced with a choice.  Are you going to repent and clean up the mess, or leave the trash there to rot and walk in darkness?  Romans 6:23 says,For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  If you choose to sow to the Spirit, you will reap life now and for eternity not just for a fleeting season.  If you choose to sow to the flesh, you will reap corruption today and for eternity (Galatians 6:7-9).  Choose to walk in the light and sow to the Spirit and live the abundant life today and eternally.
