The Light of the World
God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5b
The dimmer switch was invented in 1961. Ever since homeowners have been using dimmers to lower the light level in the rooms of their houses. The problem is, some Christians believe they can apply a dimmer switch to their walk with God. Jesus said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Once we are saved and Jesus makes His home in our heart, we are to walk in the light. We are not to apply a dimmer switch to turn our lives dim on Monday so we can walk in sin in the world. Then turn the light up on Sundays when we go to church, aka Sunday morning Christians. This is a lie and deception of the enemy that will lead to destruction (James 1:6-8).
We are to walk with God every second of every day. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” To truly walk with Jesus is to walk in obedience to the Word of God / Bible. Which is why Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God is the word. Therefore, the word brings light. Our Christian walk should have a brighter switch applied to it. Proverbs 4:18 says, “But the path of the just (obedient) is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” As we continue in the word and obey it, our lives will get brighter. As the light gets brighter, we see and become more aware of the traps that the enemy has set before us and can avoid them (Proverbs 3:26). This allows us to fulfill Matthew 5:14-16 which says, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Decide today to remove the dimmer switch from your life that keeps you going back to sin. Choose to stay in the word and the brighter switch will be in effect.
