October 2016 Words of Life (Week 1)

God Does Not Change!

We change a lot of things in life, whether it be a shirt we just put on, throw pillows on our couch, our profile photo, phones, tires on a car, etc.  The reason we change things is because we believe there is something better.  God does not change.  Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”  Once you discover perfection, you do not change it.  If you find the perfect recipe for macaroni and cheese, you are not going to try a different recipe next time.  God is perfect!  Psalm 18:30a says, “As for God, His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord is proven…”  There is no reason or need for Him to change, and He doesn’t.  Malachi 3:6a says, “For I am the Lord, I do not change.”  God does not change for certain people either.  What He did for Moses or Abraham, He will do for you.  God is no respecter of persons and shows no partiality (Romans 2:11 and Acts 10:34).  Instead of following and imitating the Author and Finisher of faith (Hebrews 12:2), the world has implemented a trial and error technique.  Try something, if you don’t like the results try something else.  This is not of God.  Psalm 34:8 says “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”  We should walk with God and see that He is good and perfect.  This should cause us to strive to be imitators of Him (Ephesians 5:1-2).

If you do not like where you are walking today, you need to change what you are doing.  Instead of the trial and error method, use the tried and true method, God and His Word!  1 Peter 2:21-22 says, “For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth.”  Follow the example Jesus set by walking in obedience.  Unfortunately, life does not come with a remote control.  So if you want to change, you will have to get up and change yourself.    This change simply comes from obeying His word, and that will be the last change you need to make!
