Obtaining the Promises of God
God’s promises are real and can be obtained by His children if we heed the warning and follow His Word. The Word tells us in Romans 4:17 that God is a God who calls those things which be not as though they are. It also tells us in Genesis 1:26 that we are made in His image. If we are made in His image and He created the world by speaking it into existence, this would lead you to believe that you have the power to create the world you live in today. Let’s dig deeper…
If those were the only scriptures regarding this belief, we would be on shaky ground. However, there are a multitude of scriptures talking about the power of the tongue. Let’s take a look at what Jesus said in Mark 11:23-24, “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. “Then Jesus said in Mark 7:15, “It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes out of your mouth.” He then said in Matthew 12:36 that on the day of judgment man will give an account of every idle word he spoke.
When man stands before God, I believe his life will be reviewed before him and then he will understand why his life was like it was. At that moment he will realize that his life consisted of the words that he spoke and that God did not do these evil things to him, but his words created them. Words like: I am sick, I am afraid I am going to get cancer, I am poor, I can never get ahead, everyone hates me, etc….
At that moment man will realize that God is not a liar (Numbers 23:19), but a wise and loving God who warned us in Proverbs 18:21, that Death and Life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.
You see it is one thing to say I want to walk in God’s promises, but another to know and do what He says to obtain them. If I want the promises of God to come to pass in my life then I must speak and do His Word. James 1:8 tells us that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. You cannot speak doubt and unbelief out of your mouth and obtain the promises of God. James also confirms what Jesus said about the defiling of a man; your tongue is like the rudder on a ship (James 3:4). Your life will go where your rudder goes.
Be not deceived, God is not mocked, what you sow you will reap (Galatians 6:7). You cannot sow words of doubt and unbelief and get salvation (Romans 10:9-10). The Word tells us that you must confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation -“WORDS”. By your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.
Obtain the promises of God by making the words of your mouth line up with what God says about you and your circumstances; nothing is impossible with God – Luke 1:37, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me – Philippians 4:13, Many are the challenges of the righteous, but He delivers us out of them all, So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you – Exodus 23:25, etc….
One word of caution, God is not a candy store, you speak what the Word says not what you want or think. 1 John 5:14-15 says that “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His Will – “His Word”, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”
Take control of your tongue and make your words line up with God’s Word – life and blessing! “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips” – Psalm 141:3.
