Testimony of Man Set Free of Addictions by Applying the Word of God!

How I Overcame Addictions

          I started using prescription drugs during high school.  At the time I thought it was fun.  It seemed like everyone else was doing the same.  My friends and I would take them when we went out to party on Friday and Saturday nights.  At the time I had no clue that these decisions would start the downward spiral in my life.  Over time the need to take more and more began to grow.  Those weekends of getting high began to turn into daily use just to feel normal.  For the next ten years, my life consisted of hurting everyone around me, trips in and out of jail, and countless near death experiences.  The decisions that I had made had allowed Satan to come in and take all the joy out of my life.  I lived in shame and condemnation from the lifestyle that I was living.  I was at the point where I didn’t even want to live anymore, I was tired of it all.  

          John 10:10 says “the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.”  The enemy wants to come and steal the plan of God out of our lives.  Jesus tells us that He has come to give us abundant life and in order to experience that we must enter into what the bible calls the born again experience.  Our sins separate us from God, and therefore we must ask The Lord to forgive us in order to have a relationship with Him (Romans 10:9-10). When we ask Him to be Lord of our lives and as we get into the Word of God and obey it, He begins to heal and restore everything the devil has tried to steal. Isaiah 53:4-5 says, “surely He took up our infirmities (sickness) and carried our sorrows (pains), yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted.  But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”  Jesus has come to set us free from all addictions and diseases.  He paid the penalty for us when He died on the cross.  We must learn to walk in the light of God’s Word.  As we do, we activate the Healing power of the Lord.  My life did not change until I started to abide in the Word of God and learn how to stand upon all the promises He has given us.  “He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction”(Psalm 107:20).  

          God does not want us to be addicted to anything.  He doesn’t want us to be sick, it is the plan of the enemy to destroy us.  “With long life I will satisfy Him and show Him my salvation” (Psalm 91:16). The word salvation means to save a suffering one from perishing, to make well, heal, restore to health.  To preserve one who is in danger of destruction.  God has given us tools to help us resist temptation.  1 Corinthians 10:13says “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so you can endure it.”  He shows us how to overcome through His Word.  We live in a society that is rampant with drug and alcohol abuse.  There is a chance we all know someone who is struggling with an addiction or has been impacted by addiction.  There is always Hope no matter how bad the situation seems.  Remember Jesus is the one who sets the captives free.  He is the only way to find eternal life and freedom.  Acts 4:12 says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  I thank God that I can write this today with freedom in Christ (The Healer).  Our goal is to help people overcome addictions and find deliverance through the Word of God.  James 5:15 says, “The prayer of faith will save the sick and The Lord will raise him up.”  If you or a loved one is struggling with any type of addiction, or if you need physical healing in your body feel free to reach out to us through our prayer request section and we will pray with you in alignment with the Word of God and teach you how to overcome!!!
