Fix Your Eyes on Jesus / the Word of God
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
God has already prepared the path that we are to walk. The only person that can mess that up is ourselves. Satan has traps, but can only get us off the path if we choose to give in to his temptations and not follow God (Proverbs 3:26). Think of it like a heckling fan, whether it be someone giving a speech or shooting a free throw. When a basketball player is shooting a free throw you can always see fans of the opposing team trying to distract the player. They will wave their hands, hold up signs, shout things, etc.. The only way these things will have an impact on the player is if he takes his focus off of his task of shooting the free throw. Our Christian walk is the same. Satan cannot pull us off the path or make us fall in to traps. The only way this will happen is if we choose to take our eyes and focus off of Christ and look to what Satan is waving at us.
Hebrews 12:1b-2a says, “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”God has prepared the way. He has already marked out the path that we are to run on. We are to stay in between the lines just as if we were driving on a road. The lines that we are to stay between are the Word of God. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes from the Word of God. So if we insert that into 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight”, you could say we are to walk by the Word of God, not by sight. If we were walking by sight, we would be walking according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2). Satan is the God of this world. We are not to walk according to what he puts in front of us. 2 Corinthians 4:18 says, “while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Choose today to fix your eyes on Jesus, the Word of God and not let the enemy outside of the lines distract you.
