Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9

There are many scriptures that talk about walking in peace.  Psalm 34:14 says, “Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”  Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.”  Most of the time we think about peacemakers as people that put fires out after they have started.  Someone said something rude to me, cut me off in traffic, is spreading lies about me, but I will overcome evil by doing good (Romans 12:21) and bless them in return.  However, being a peacemaker is preventative just as much, if not more, than dealing with the problem after it occurs. 

Most people in the world have a boiling point.  Scripturally we should not as 1 Corinthians 10:13b says, “[God] will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able…” But for most people, once so many bad things happen to them in a day or week, they become short fused and will do and say things that they normally would not do and say.  This can cause these people to not walk in peace with those around them.  So, let’s say Paul’s boiling point is 3 bad things happening to him.  2 bad things have already happened, and now the wind has just knocked his trash can over spilling trash all over his driveway.  If we simply do what we know to do, the Word of God, we can act as a peacemaker.  the right thing to do would be to go and pick up Paul’s trash.  This one simple act has now prevented Paul from reaching his boiling point and allowed Paul to walk in peace with his friends, family, coworkers, and YOU!  Walking in peace is a choice that we must all make.  However, we can help those around us make the right choice by obeying Philippians 2:3b-4 says, “Esteem others better than [yourself]. Let each of you look out not only for [your] own interests, but also for the interests of others.”  When we humble ourselves and walk as peace makers, not only will we be blessed, but our humility will cause God to teach us His ways and we will see the heart of God!  (Psalm 25:9)
