Words Have Power
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
The power of life and death is in your tongue! Deuteronomy 30:15 says, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.” Then in verse 19 we are told to, “choose life, that both we and our descendants may live.” We make this choice by the words that we speak. Yes, our words have power. The circumstances you are walking in today are a result of what you have spoken over yourself the last few years. Proverbs 18:20 says, “A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.” Galatians 6:7 says that you reap what you sow. The words that you speak are seed (Mark 4:14), and they will cultivate into good or bad fruit. If you still don’t believe your words have power, read Genesis 1.
In Genesis 1:26a God said, “Let us make man in our image…” We were made in the image of God and given dominion and authority. So, if we were made in the image of God, let’s look at how God used His tongue. Genesis 1:3 says, “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” God did not wave a magic wand to create the light, He spoke it into being! If you read all of Genesis 1, (The account of Creation), you will find the term “God said” 10 times. If God created this world by speaking it, and we were made in His image, don’t you think we should be speaking things into existence also? Absolutely (Romans 4:17)! You may be thinking, but my situation is hopeless. Genesis 1:2a says, “The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep.” God was speaking to a dark, empty waste. You can speak to whatever situation you are facing too! You can view your dark situation as a canvas for you to partner with God to make something beautiful. You may not see the way to get out of the darkness, but Job 22:28 says, “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.” As you speak life, light will illuminate the path that God has paved for you!
You Can Have What You Say
Mark 11:23 says, “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Charles Capps was teaching from this verse when the Lord spoke to Him. He said, “I have told My people they can have what they say, but they are saying what they have.” Are you speaking your circumstances, or are you speaking God’s promises? If you are feeling sick, you speak that you are healed (1 Peter 2:24). If you see your bank account balance is low, you say thank you Lord for supplying all my needs (Philippians 4:19). You cannot just start saying that you want things, like a new car, and expect to receive them though. There are 3 stipulations to receiving from God, the words you speak.
Speak according to God’s will (1 John 5:14-15)
Be obedient to what you know (Isaiah 59:2, Psalm 66:18)
Have faith you will receive with no doubting (James 1:6-8)
#1 If you are speaking God’s promises from His Word, you are speaking according to God’s will and He hears you. Make sure your words are lining up with the life-giving promises of God. #2 If you are being obedient to the Word of God, He hears your words. If you are in sin, you have separated yourself from God causing Him to not hear you (Isaiah 59:2 & Psalm 66:18). #3 Finally, if you have faith and believe what you are speaking you will receive it. Hebrews 11:6 says it is faith that pleases God. Even if your circumstance appears different, do not speak what you see. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says we are to “walk by faith and not by sight.” Using our Heavenly Father as the example, in Romans 4:17, “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.” God speaks the things into existence before they exist! Be obedient and speak God’s promises into existence in your life by faith regardless of what your situation looks like.
Live by and Speak Only God’s Word
Jesus said in John 12:49, “For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.” Jesus only spoke what the Father spoke! We need to follow the example Jesus set and only speak God’s Word and promises. This is one area that got the children of Israel in trouble. God had already told Abraham, Isaac, Jacob Moses and others that He was giving the land of Canaan to the children of Israel. However, 10 of the 12 spies came back saying the people in Canaan were too big and strong and they could not defeat them. In the natural, they probably would not have been able to take the land, but God said they could. This was viewed as an evil report (Numbers 13:32). We are also giving an evil report when we speak contrary to God’s word. For example, when we say we are sick, instead of speaking by Jesus’ stripes we are healed (1 Peter 2:24, Exodus 23:25).
If you want to be walking in the fullness of God (provision, protection, blessing, love, etc.), you must be speaking the Word of God. Take an Iphone for example. Does an Iphone answer to Bob, Jenny, or Sue? No! It answers to Siri. God answers to faith, which is demonstrated by obedience! If you are speaking doubt, negativity, and death, you are speaking the words of Satan, not God. If God has told you to take the land, house, job, car, etc., you speak that you are taking it. Do not dare let anything contrary come out of your mouth. That is obedience. Speaking what God says in faith is what activates the presence and blessings of God in your life (Hebrews 11:6). Joshua and Caleb were the only 2 out of the 12 that spoke what God said and not what they saw.. They were also the only ones of the 12 who entered the Promised Land! If God has given you a word or promise, declare it. If He has not, do not speak anything until He imparts the wisdom to you. Get on your knees and seek His face. Ask Him for the wisdom, and He will give it to you (James 1:5). Matthew 4:4b says that we are to live by “every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Use Jesus as your example, and speak only what God has spoken or revealed to you through His Word or by the Holy Spirit.
