Walking in God’s Promises
Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light… Matthew 10:27
A multitude of angels appeared to shepherds stating the Savior of the world had been born. The angels praised God before they returned to Heaven. Then the shepherds hastily went to find baby Jesus. Once they found Him they made widely known what the angels told them concerning Jesus. This was confirmation to Mary of what the angel Gabriel told her in Luke 1:26-38. Everyone who heard the shepherds marveled, but Luke 2:19 says Mary kept those things. The amplified says that she treasured them. Scripture doesn’t show where Mary is discussing what God, through the angel Gabriel, had told her would happen. You can even read in Matthew 1:18-25 that Joseph was going to put her away secretly once she was with child. It wasn’t until Gabriel visited Joseph that he became aware of what was going on. What does this mean? Protect the promises God has given you.
Mary understood that she was responsible for this blessing from God. She guarded and protected Jesus and did not broadcast Him to the world. Matthew 10:27 says, “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light;…” This does not mean tell everyone what the Lord has revealed to you. It means once the promise has been fulfilled and brought to light, you can proclaim it publicly to bring glory to God. Jesus’ birth was not the entire fulfillment of God’s promise. Jesus had to carry the weight of the world, our sins, and die on a cross. Mary could have opened her mouth and allowed the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy what God had planned (John 10:10). Herod was seeking to kill Jesus, just as Satan is trying to kill your blessings God has revealed to you. If you speak about them prematurely, you may be opening a door for the enemy to work through people to speak death and possibly alter God’s plan. If the Lord leads you to speak to someone, then talk to them. If not, then treasure what God has given you as Mary did. Proclaim the promise in your personal time with the Lord, and wait for the manifestation before revealing it openly.
