Quenching the Fiery Darts of the Enemy
No weapon formed against you shall prosper… . Isaiah 54:17
If you have ever watched a soccer match, or in Europe football, you know that each team has a goalie. The goalie’s main job is to stop the ball from going in the goal. This prevents the opponent from scoring. If a team wins 5-0, it doesn’t mean the losing team never took a shot on goal. The victors just stopped all the shots on goal. The same is true in our Christian walk. Even though you see an obedient person blessed in his walk does not mean he isn’t faced with fiery darts from the enemy. Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord.” This says that no weapon will prosper against you. It does not say that no weapons will be formed. You must have your goalie in place to stop the weapons.
The armor of God is talked about in Ephesians 6. Ephesians 6:16 describes how we put our goalie in place to stop the enemy from scoring on us. “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” We quench all of Satan’s shots on goal by taking up the ‘shield of faith’. So what is the shield of faith? Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Your faith is in the Word of God. If you are not quenching the fiery darts of the enemy with your shield of faith in your life, examine yourself. It would come down to 2 key areas. Either you do not know what the Word says about overcoming in that area, or you are not standing on the Word you know and applying it to your life. If you are falling into this category, you are playing a soccer match without your goalie. Your one line of defense against the enemy is sitting on the bench and you are susceptible to all the fiery darts or shots on goal from the enemy. Memorize Joshua 1:8. You must be in the Word every day, speak the Word over every area of your life, and obey it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
