Standing on God’s Word
Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it! Luke 11:28b
What is the logical thing to do if you are in an area that is being flooded? Get to higher ground. We are living in a world that is flooded with the presence of the enemy, flooded with temptations, flooded with sin, flooded with offense. How are we to get to higher ground? Isaiah 59:19b says “When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.” The enemy has already come into this world, and the Lord has already lifted up a standard against him. That standard in the flesh was Jesus Christ, and today the standard we are to stand upon is His Word, which is Jesus (John 1:1, 1:14)!
We can be lifted above the flood that the enemy is bringing into this world by standing upon His Word. Imagine a tape measure being extended. Although instead of this tape measure showing 1 inch, 2 inches, etc., it shows verses in the Bible. Let’s say that at the 1-inch mark, this tape measure says John 3:16. If you heard or read John 3:16, and asked Jesus to come in to your heart, then this verse means something to you. You have been saved! Now you are standing upon this verse. You have been elevated 1 inch (according to the tape measure) and now Satan’s flood of attacks about you going to Hell will just flow underneath you. You will be unphased by the enemy’s schemes, because you know John 3:16 and you know that you are saved. Now you pull the tape measure out further and see Psalm 103:12, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” You memorize this verse and it becomes true to you. Now the devil cannot condemn you about your past, because you are standing upon Psalm 103:12. As you continue to hide God’s Word in your heart and stand upon it by obeying it, you will be lifted higher and higher. The more you do this, the less Satan will be able to offend you, condemn you, bring shame upon you, hit you with his fiery darts, tempt you, etc.. Satan’s attacks will pass by you like water under a bridge, because you are standing upon God’s Word! (Isaiah 59:19)
