OVERCOMING ADDICTIONS AND HABITS
Life can be tough. And sometimes it feels like it is impossible to get ahead, to get through certain circumstances, or overcome habits or addictions. People are limited based upon their ability, their thinking, their background, their resources or their strength to overcome or deal with certain things in life. However, what is impossible with man is not impossible with God. The Bible tells us in Mark 10:27b that “ALL THINGS ARE POSSISBLE WITH GOD”. Please note that He did not say some things, He said ALL THINGS. Yes, whatever habit or addiction you are facing it is possible to be SET FREE. There are many other scriptures in the Bible that talk about God is able and will do the impossible; Luke 1:37, Jeremiah 32:27, Psalm 34:19, etc…
However, to access or tap into God’s overcoming power we have to call upon Him. He will never force Himself into our lives, but He is always ready to help us when we are ready to invite Him into our life and follow Him. In Revelation 3:20, it says, “Behold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock, when you hear my voice, open the door and I will come in and fellowship with you and you will fellowship with Me”. In Psalm 50:15, He says “call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will rescue you, and you will honor Me. “You see, God is waiting to help you, but you must call upon Him.
When He comes into your life, you now have access to the authority and power of God. Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing by any means will harm you.” In Philippians 4:13, it says that “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me.”
Jesus told us in John 10:9-10 that He is the door to God; “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly”. Jesus was warning us that there is an enemy; the Devil and his demons who are out to destroy you and everything about you, because you are God’s creation. The enemy uses some of the things or ways of the world to destroy. However, in John 3:16-17 it tells us that Jesus came to save you and make your life safe and sound. In 1 John 3:8b, it says that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.
Simply, ask Jesus to come into your life and take over. Let Him know that you are getting out of the driver’s seat and getting in the back seat, and that you are ready to follow Him. Now, if you are going to follow Him, you need to know what He says. The way you get to know HIS WAYS is by reading His Word-the Bible. In Psalm 119:105, it says that the Bible is a lamp for your feet and a light for your path. The Bible also says that His Word has the power to change your life (Hebrews 4:12, James 1:21).
In addition, to getting into the Bible, you need to attend a church that teaches the true Word of God so you can hear the truth being taught and fellowship with other like-minded people who are walking in the ways of God. We invite you to AIM-Church to be encouraged to follow God and His ways.
Below is a prayer for you to pray to accept Christ as your Savior and scriptures and affirmations to help you overcome any habit or addiction you are facing in your life:
Prayer to Accept Jesus as Savior:
If you want to accept Christ as your Savior and turn from your sins, you can ask Him to be your Savior and Lord by praying a prayer like this:
Father I believe in Jesus Christ your son and that He lived to show me the way and died for my sins that I might be restored to you as my Heavenly Father. Please forgive me of my sins and give me the gift of eternal life in your Son, Jesus Christ. I ask you Jesus to come into my life and to be my Lord and Savior. I thank you for dying on the cross for my sins and showing me the way to the Father. (Romans 10:9-10, 1 John 1:9)
