The Holy Spirit is our GPS (God’s Positioning System)
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; 16:13a
In John 14:16 Jesus tells the disciples that the Father will send the Holy Spirit. When Jesus is talking, He refers to the Holy Spirit as “another Helper”. If the Holy Spirit is ANOTHER Helper, then we already have one helper. The disciples not only had the Living Word, Jesus, with them, but they had the writings of Moses and the prophets which was quoted many times in the New Testament. So the Word and the Holy Spirit are both Helpers that the Lord has given us. They work together to lead us and guide us. What would a tooth brush be without tooth paste, or a car without gas, or a lamp without a power cord. Now imagine the Holy Spirit as our GPS and the Word as our directions or map.
Jesus said in John 16:13 that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth. John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” So the Holy Spirit guides us using the Word. This is why it is important to read the Word daily. Have you ever used a GPS with old maps that have not been updated? You will end up going the wrong way or take much longer to get where you need to be. The same is true when you are trying to find God’s will, but not in the Word. “Give us this day our daily bread,” Matthew 6:11. We have to be in the Word daily to assure we will not be misled. As with a GPS, if the Holy Spirit tells us to turn right and we turn left, we will get off God’s path. However, He can recalculate our path and give us new directions, if we repent and if the enemy does not kill or destroy us before we get back on the path God intended for us. (John 10:10) Isaiah 59:2 and Psalm 66:18 say that our sins or iniquities separate us from God causing Him to not hear our cries. Be quick to repent for going your own way. Seek His direction by getting into His Word daily and the Holy Spirit will guide you to the truth (John 8:31-32).
