True Believer’s Practice the Word and Overcome the World

For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Faith in What? God’s Word! Believing and doing what God says in His Word. (1 John 3:10, I John 5:4).

The word overcome means to be victorious or prevail. True Christians do not let this world conquer them, they conquer the world, they understand that greater is He who is in them than he who is in the world (I John 4:4). They do not love the world (1 John 2:15-17); there is no friendship with the world (James 4:4); they do not adopt the world’s values or practices (Romans 12:1-2; Titus 2:12). They are overcomers, overcoming the world, the devil (1 John 2:13-14), and false teachers who preach another gospel (1 John 4:1). True followers of Christ (Christians) overcome this world by believing and acting on the Word of God (Revelation 12:11).

Another characteristic of a true believer is his/her separation from the ways of the world. Their values and practices line up with the Word of God. Their decisions are based on the instruction and wisdom of the Word (Bible), not the wisdom of the world, which is foolishness with God (1 Corinthians 3:19-20). One who claims that he/she is a Christian but has worldly values and has adopted a worldly lifestyle is deceiving him/herself and is missing the mark and the plan of God has for their lives.

Make a decision today to walk as a true believer; seek God first everyday (Matthew 6:33), humble yourself, submit to him and resist the devil (Psalm 25:9, James 4:7-8, Luke 9:23), be a doer of the Word (James 1:19-27), and watch Him reveal himself to you (John 14:21). He will lead you beside the still waters and green pastures (Psalm 32:8, Psalm 23).
