Lesson 5 Day 5

How Can I Add Years and Quality to My Life?

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; For length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Proverbs 3:1-2

There are many debilitating and life-threatening diseases in the world today.  Doctors are prescribing very expensive medications that will prolong people’s lives or improve their quality of life.  If you were in a situation where you could pay $100 a month for a pill to prolong your life by 5 or 10 years, or improve the quality of your life, would you do it?  What if there was another method that will prolong your life and improve the quality of your life and on top of that, you would not have to pay anything for it!  Proverbs 3:1b-2 says, “Keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.”  Memorizing God’s Word will bring so many positive benefits.  It is  no wonder God has told us to hide His Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11), let the word of Christ dwell in us richly (Colossians 3:16), eat His Word (Jeremiah 15:16), bind His Word continually on our hearts (Proverbs 6:21), not let His Word depart from our mouths (Joshua 1:8), bind His word as a sign on our hands and as frontlets between our eyes (Deuteronomy 11:18), and many more.

Most people memorize by repetition, saying it over and over.  When you do this Romans 10:17 comes into play, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”  You are building your faith as you read the Word.  Then Hebrews 11:6a says, “without faith it is impossible to please Him [God]…”  John even writes in 3 John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”  The greatest joy you can bring to God is when you are walking in or obeying truth [God’s Word (John 17:17)].  So when you memorize and obey the Word, not only are you prolonging your life and bringing yourself peace and prosperity (Proverbs 3:1-2), but you are also making your way successful (Joshua 1:8), creating a holy life where you would not sin against God (Psalm 119:11, increasing your faith (Romans 10:17), pleasing God (Hebrews 11:6), and bringing God the greatest joy possible (3 John 1:4).  What is your plan to memorize the Word?

Mark 13:31 – Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Numbers 23:19 – God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Bonus: Psalm 33:11 – The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.
